Emmanuel Ruchat has been a lawyer since 1996. He holds a business management degree, a master in business law and an applied postgraduate degree (DESS) in insurance and liability law.
His practice in life insurance lead him to deal with group insurance for employees, and then with employment law issues and international mobility of workers. Every year he is also classified as one of the best in business and corporate immigration lawyers for self-employed and executive employees. Emmanuel has authored many articles about these topics. He is the author of Foreign Executives (Les cadres étrangers, Kluwer, 2005 and 2007). In 2003 he founded Lexial Val d’Europe, a not-for-profit group that examines issues related to international mobility.
He is also licensed to litigate at Supreme Court in criminal law since February 2016 according to Article 425 § 1 of Criminal Code. From 2007 to 2012 he worked with the famous criminal lawyer Michel Graindorge, with whom he organized in 2008 the General Assembly on Prisons in France and in Belgium, with the former French Justice Minister Robert Badinter. In February 2010 he was the first lawyer to raise in a Belgian criminal court the right, for a person accused of murder, to be assisted by an attorney as from the first hearing by the police (which was confirmed in this case by the European Court of Human Rights in 2018). He is a member of the International Criminal Court Bar Association (The Hague). He is a co-author of Fundamental Rights (Our Knowledge Publishing, 2022).
Emmanuel has a great expertise in proceedings related to EU sanctions and co-authored a book about actions in damages arising from such sanctions (Damages in EU Law, Lambert, 2022).
Emmanuel is recognized since 2016 by the Bar Association with the title of Specialist in Immigration Law and in Criminal Law. He taught international human resources law at the Institute of Business Administration (IAE) in Lille. He is a member of the Swiss Business Council for Belgium and Luxemburg.
In 2017 he founded a European LREM committee (political movement created by French President Emmanuel Macron) in Brussels. He worked with former Ministry Michel Barnier within the framework of “Nouvelle Republique” from 2003 to 2008, as well as Senator Jean-Marie Bockel (“Gauche Moderne”) from 2008 to 2010. In 2008, Emmanuel participated in drawing up with MEP Alain Lamassoure a report titled “Citizens and European law enforcement”, submitted to President Sarkozy. He wrote articles in his blog for Le Monde from August 2017 to August 2018.
